Do you ever feel like part of you is hurting… but another part keeps you busy so you don’t have to feel it ?
Do you notice moments where you “shut down,” get small, or feel an old familiar ache you can’t quite explain?
Or maybe you have feelings inside like being scared, lonely, ashamed and you’ve learned to hide them away just to get through life?
In the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach, these tender inner places are what we call exiles which are the parts of us that carry our deepest emotional wounds. They’re not problems to fix. They’re not evidence that something is wrong with you. They’re simply the parts of your system that had to hold the pain so that you could keep moving forward.
When we approach these exiled parts with gentleness, curiosity, and compassion rather than trying to avoid or suppress them, they begin to soften. They share their stories. They let us know what they’ve been holding. and then they finally get the care, and attention they’ve needed for so long.
In sessions, we move at the pace of your own nervous system. We honor your protective parts and trust your body’s wisdom every step of the way. Nothing gets pushed. Nothing gets forced. Healing happens naturally when your system feels safe enough to unfold.
If any of this makes sense to you, do get in touch with me as I would be delighted to support you in bringing all of yourself home to your heart.
